Join members of the Yale Center for Geospatial Solutions for a presentation and discussion on forest remote sensing with Henrik Jan Persson, Associate Professor at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) and Senior Researcher at the forestry research institute Skogforsk.
Abstract:
Sweden, a leading country in the forestry sector, is investing extensively in new remote sensing tools to improve the utilization of natural forest resources. In this talk, we will explore some of the latest optical, radar, and X-ray technologies capable of deriving stand-level insights, typically invisible to the human eye. Helping establish a unique set of experimental sites in Sweden to develop these methods, Professor Persson will outline their application for the estimation biomass, soil carbon, evapotranspiration, and stand damage. We will also learn about the integration of these tools into parts of the Swedish forestry sector.
