Geospatial Workforce Development

This event has passed.

The Yale Center for Geospatial Solutions in collaboration with Radiant Earth is convening a workshop to assess the geospatial workforce needs required to support investments in climate adaptation, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. The objective is to define essential job roles and skill sets that will enable local actors to harness geospatial data for addressing climate change, global supply chain challenges, and public health concerns. Particular emphasis will be placed on skills that take advantage of the open Internet, open data products, and open source software.

Participants will include representatives from charitable foundations, international development organizations, and HR professionals from large engineering firms. Discussions will focus on identifying workforce gaps, defining critical geospatial job roles, and outlining the technical and analytical skills required for effective climate adaptation.

Workshop Objectives

  • Identify key job roles needed for geospatial data-driven climate adaptation.
  • Assess workforce gaps and barriers to hiring in different regions.
  • Define essential technical and analytical skills for these roles.
  • Discuss strategies for scaling geospatial workforce development globally.
