Past Event: LANDIS-II: A Toolkit Modeling Approach for Predicting Future Forest Patterns, Interactions, and Sustainable Planning

Tue Nov 19, 2024 12:00 p.m.—1:00 p.m.
Weimin Xi

This event has passed.

New developments in forest science, landscape ecology, quantitative ecology, computer sciences, geospatial statistics, geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing technologies, and decision-support systems have provided opportunities for developing forest landscape models (FLMs) that are increasingly valuable for prediction of long-term forest dynamics and sustainable management.

Dr. Weimin Xi will present an overview of LANDIS-II, a widely used spatially interactive FLM with case studies of the model at different forested regions. He will also discuss limitations of FLMs, challenges of developing LANDIS-II, and its implications in a changing climate.
