Ryan Zhenqi Zhou is the YCGS Research Data Specialist. He applies geospatial data science and AI to interdisciplinary research addressing environmental and societal challenges. He has experience working with diverse datasets, including human mobility data, remote sensing imagery, environmental and climate data, population health data, census data, and other sources. His research interests include Geospatial Artificial Intelligence (GeoAI), Geospatial Data Science, Disaster Resilience, Population Health, and Human Mobility.
Before joining Yale, Ryan earned his PhD in Geography from the State University of New York at Buffalo, where he applied geospatial data science and AI to research on disaster resilience (e.g., winter storms) and population health (e.g., obesity estimation). He also worked as a consultant for the World Bank Group’s International Finance Corporation, applying geospatial analysis and AI to projects in healthcare access, climate resilience, tourism, and economic development in low- and middle-income countries. In addition, he served as a research assistant at Weill Cornell Medicine, where he worked on population health research. Outside of work, Ryan enjoys playing soccer, weightlifting, and exploring coffee brewing.
