The Yale Center for Geospatial Solutions is providing geospatial and technical support for HGIS de las Indias, a digital atlas and data platform developed as part of the “Bridging the Atlantic: Migrations and their Legacies” Initiative. Center staff is supporting the cleaning and organization of historical spatial datasets and the development of a web-based atlas and encyclopedia interface. This work includes re-structuring geospatial data, helping with the integration of historical datasets into interactive WebGIS tools, and designing website components that allow users to easily explore the spatial dimensions of migration, governance, and economic development in late colonial Spanish America (ca. 1701–1808). These efforts will improve the accessibility of complicated historical data, enabling researchers, students, and the public to investigate the spatial dynamics of the early modern Americas through interactive maps and digital resources.
